A move that comes just two days after he was granted bail following a six-month imprisonment. 

At a party meeting, Kejriwal stated that he would resign in 48 hours and would not return to his position until the people of Delhi had their say in the upcoming elections. 

He emphasized that while he has received justice from the court, he seeks to secure justice from the electorate, who will determine his political future.

Kejriwal’s resignation announcement has sparked a reaction from various quarters.

 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), through spokesperson Harish Khurana, questioned the timing of the resignation, 

Suggesting that Kejriwal should resign immediately rather than waiting for 48 hours. 

Khurana also noted that the BJP is prepared for early elections, whether they are held today or tomorrow, and expressed confidence in returning to power in Delhi after 25 years.

Meanwhile, Delhi Congress welcomed Kejriwal's decision, albeit with criticism.

 Delhi Congress chief Devendra Yadav remarked that it would have been preferable if Kejriwal had resigned earlier, especially during crises like the recent floods and water shortages in Delhi. 

Yadav expressed hope that a new Chief Minister would address these pressing issues more effectively.

In his address, Kejriwal criticized the central government, comparing its alleged dictatorial tendencies to those of the British colonial rulers. 

He urged other non-BJP leaders not to resign in the face of legal challenges, framing such actions as part of a broader strategy against opposition leaders.

 He also mentioned discussions with former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who has also recently been granted bail. 

Kejriwal’s move to step down reflects his broader strategy to reconnect with the electorate and reaffirm his commitment to democratic principles.
