AI startup Perplexity has introduced its first workplace automation tool, the Perplexity Email Assistant. 

Following the recent launch of its Comet web browser in July, this new product signals the company's expansion into productivity-focused AI solutions. 

The Email Assistant is designed to help busy professionals and business users manage their inboxes more efficiently, offering a suite of features that go beyond standard email functionality.

The Email Assistant is a premium service, exclusively available to subscribers of the Perplexity Max membership plan, which costs $200 per month (approximately ₹17,700). 

It currently supports Gmail and Outlook, with the company planning to integrate with other email providers in the future. 

Once connected, the AI agent can perform a variety of tasks, including composing email replies in the user's voice, summarizing email threads, and prioritizing important messages.

The tool's functionality extends to automated inbox management and scheduling. 

It can automatically label and organize emails and even create calendar meetings by analyzing CC'd email discussions. 

The assistant can also coordinate schedules with contacts to find the ideal time for meetings. 

A daily feature provides task summaries based on email activity, essentially acting as a personal assistant integrated directly into a user’s email workflow.

Setting up the Email Assistant is a simple, two-step process. Users must first log in to their Perplexity account on the website and link their email account. 

To activate the service, they then need to send an email from the linked account to assistant@perplexity.com. 

Once this is complete, the assistant's interface will appear on the Perplexity platform, ready to assist with a user's email needs.

Regarding data security, Perplexity states that its service complies with SOC 2 and GDPR regulations. 

While user data is handled securely and is reportedly not used to train the AI assistant, the company has not fully disclosed details about data storage duration or employee access. 

The assistant does, however, analyze email content to learn and adapt to the user's personal communication style, ensuring that the generated responses are a close match to their voice and tone.
