Ola Electric Prioritizes Roadster Motorcycle, Delays Scooter Deliveries

Ola Electric has announced an indefinite delay in the deliveries of its S1 Z and Gig/Gig+ electric scooters. 

The company, led by Bhavish Aggarwal, states that this postponement is a strategic move to redirect focus and resources towards the Roadster electric motorcycle platform. 

This decision also aims to streamline the company's cost structure and enhance sales efficiency across its extensive dealership network in India.

The S1 Z and Gig/Gig+ electric scooters were initially launched in November 2024, with deliveries slated to commence between April and May 2025. 

However, Ola Electric has yet to provide a new timeline for when these models will reach customers. 

Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, informed investors that the company plans to launch these products sequentially to ensure each receives adequate customer attention.

Aggarwal clarified the company's immediate priorities, stating, "Our focus right now is the Roadster platform, which is Roadster X, X Plus, and then the Roadster itself, Roadster and Arrowhead. 

The Gig, Gig Plus, Z, as well as the three-wheeler platforms will be a little later." The S1 Z and S1 Z+ were introduced at competitive price points of ₹59,999 and ₹64,999, respectively. 

The B2B e-scooters, Gig and Gig+, were touted as the most affordable Ola electric models, priced at ₹39,999 and ₹49,999.

This isn't the first time Ola Electric has faced delivery challenges. Earlier this year, the company encountered significant customer dissatisfaction due to a prolonged delay in the deliveries of the Roadster electric motorcycle. 

Despite being introduced in February 2025 with test rides expected by mid-March and deliveries shortly thereafter, the bikes only began reaching a few initial customers on May 23 after multiple postponements. 

The Ola Roadster X offers ranges of 140 km, 196 km, and 252 km with 2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh, and 4.5 kWh battery pack options, respectively.

Amidst these strategic shifts and delivery delays, Ola Electric has reportedly been losing market share to conventional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) players like TVS and Bajaj. 

The company was recently dethroned from its position as India's top-selling EV brand, experiencing substantial volume drops throughout all four quarters of FY25.

 Currently, Ola Electric claims to operate 4,000 functional showrooms nationwide.
