The move comes shortly after reports of a legal victory for Epic Games against Apple earlier in May, leaving the reasons behind this renewed blockade unclear, as Apple has yet to issue a statement.

The dispute between the two companies initially erupted in 2020 when Epic Games introduced an external payment system in Fortnite, bypassing Apple's App Store commission fees, which can be as high as 30%. 

This violation of Apple's policies led to Fortnite's removal from the App Store. 

While the legal proceedings have seen various rulings and appeals over the years, including a recent one where a judge found Apple in willful violation of an earlier injunction to allow developers to inform users of alternative payment options, the core issue of Apple's control over its App Store ecosystem and the revenue it generates remains contentious.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney expressed his frustration on social media, suggesting that Apple's App Review team should operate without interference and adhere to their guidelines without being used as a tool to obstruct competition. 

Despite the legal pressure and regulatory changes in the EU that allowed third-party app stores on iOS, Fortnite's attempt to return to the US App Store and its availability on Epic's own EU-based iOS store have been thwarted. 

The version of Fortnite submitted by Epic reportedly included payment systems for Apple alongside its own, indicating an attempt to comply while still offering user choice.
