Google has announced a major policy change for its Play Store in India, allowing all legal real money games (RMG) to be listed on the platform. 

This decision comes after an investigation by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) into the company's previous policies, which were alleged to be anti-competitive. 

The new policy aims to create a more open and equitable marketplace for game developers.

The shift in policy was triggered by a complaint filed in November 2024 by WinZO Games Pvt Ltd. WinZO argued that Google was unfairly favoring certain types of real money games, such as Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) and Rummy, while restricting others. 

The CCI's subsequent probe found that this selective approach violated competition rules and created barriers for new developers trying to enter the Indian market.

In response to the CCI’s investigation, Google submitted a "Play Commitment Proposal" and an "AIDS Commitment Proposal." 

These proposals outlined the company's commitment to fostering a competitive environment and preventing any single entity from gaining an unfair market advantage. 

The new policy is a direct result of these commitments, which seek to align Google's practices with fair competition guidelines.

Under the new policy, any real money game that is compliant with Indian laws and regulations will be eligible for listing on the Play Store. 

This change is expected to significantly benefit the online gaming industry in India, providing a level playing field for a wider range of developers. 

It also signals a more transparent and structured approach from Google towards the burgeoning RMG sector.

To support this new direction, Google is also developing a new business model specifically designed to assist RMG developers. 

This initiative is intended to further support the growth of the industry and ensure that developers have the resources and support needed to succeed. 

The move is seen as a positive step towards resolving the regulatory challenges and fostering a more dynamic and competitive gaming ecosystem in India.

CCI की जाँच के बाद Google, Play Store पर सभी वैध रियल मनी गेम्स को अनुमति देगा

Google ने भारत में अपने Play Store के लिए एक बड़े नीतिगत बदलाव की घोषणा की है, जिसके तहत सभी वैध रियल मनी गेम्स (RMG) को प्लेटफ़ॉर्म पर सूचीबद्ध करने की अनुमति दी गई है।

यह निर्णय भारतीय प्रतिस्पर्धा आयोग (CCI) द्वारा कंपनी की पिछली नीतियों की जाँच के बाद आया है, जिन्हें कथित तौर पर प्रतिस्पर्धा-विरोधी बताया गया था।

नई नीति का उद्देश्य गेम डेवलपर्स के लिए एक अधिक खुला और न्यायसंगत बाज़ार बनाना है।

नीति में यह बदलाव नवंबर 2024 में WinZO गेम्स प्राइवेट लिमिटेड द्वारा दर्ज की गई एक शिकायत के बाद हुआ। WinZO ने तर्क दिया कि Google कुछ प्रकार के रियल मनी गेम्स, जैसे डेली फैंटेसी स्पोर्ट्स (DFS) और रम्मी, को अनुचित रूप से तरजीह दे रहा है, जबकि अन्य पर प्रतिबंध लगा रहा है।

इन प्रस्तावों में प्रतिस्पर्धी माहौल को बढ़ावा देने और किसी भी संस्था को अनुचित बाज़ार लाभ प्राप्त करने से रोकने के लिए कंपनी की प्रतिबद्धता को रेखांकित किया गया है।

नई नीति इन प्रतिबद्धताओं का प्रत्यक्ष परिणाम है, जो गूगल की प्रथाओं को निष्पक्ष प्रतिस्पर्धा दिशानिर्देशों के अनुरूप बनाने का प्रयास करती है।
